According
to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, sleep is the natural periodic
suspension of consciousness during which the powers of the body are restored.
Today in train Telman and I spoke about sleep. About normal time of sleeping
and reality. One man who sat opposite us sad that it’s normal time for sleep in
the age of about twenty years about forty five minutes!!! My first reaction
was, ‘What have you said?’ But he really said that normal time for sleeping is
about forty five minutes. Later about five minutes he told some things why it
is normal to sleep about 45 minutes and bad to sleep more time. I don’t
remember completely his arguments. He also said that he was a soldier, so this
fact about sleep he knew when he was a soldier, and this fact was proved by
Soviet and American experiments on people. But despite his words I think that
it’s unreal to sleep only forty five minutes a day. I think I will try this
system of sleep because of great amounts of work sometimes I have to do. But I
hope I do it because I want to sleep more than 6 hours, but it’s too hard in
NES. That’s the end because I want to sleep and tomorrow it will be a difficult
day because of Final Project presentation for my English class and because of
writing exam of my algebra course. Oh, I’ll have about four with a half hours to
sleep. Not good. But not bad. Sometimes I have less time for watching dreams.
A lot of blogs of NES students are related to sleep. It is an actual theme because students have only 24 hours, but need much more. I do not agree with that man because for our health we need to sleep, otherwise how cope with the load? I think it is useful to find out some information about sleeping. I mean that there are a lot of books on technique of sleeping that will help us.
ОтветитьУдалитьI was very surprised when I was reading your post. I alvays heard that yong people should sleep from 8 to 10 hours every day for good health. Maybe it is OK to sleep only 45 minutes in a short period? I remember several days when I slept not more than an hour and felt quite good.
ОтветитьУдалитьIn last 2 weeks, as you know, Alex, I had 3 almost sleepless nigths, because of my English course, and I can say that I was more fresh when I slept about 1 hour or didn't sleep at all and then had interesting classes than when I was sleeping more than 5 hours but had absolutely uninteresting. But, honestly, brain skills really depend on hours of sleep. So, returning to that man in train, he was a soldier, consequently, he always had something to do, and, as we all know, brain abilities are not the best feature of a good soldier. Maybe, that is the reason, why consider 45-minute sleep as normal. But, we are not soldiers, we are NES students, so we have to sleep more than 45 minutes.
ОтветитьУдалитьIn my opinion, the human organism is able to adapt to anything. The key thing here is practice. Of course if you got used to 6-7 hours of sleep and suddenly decided to change your sleep time from 6-7 to 3/4 your organism would be very dissatisfied, it doesn't like dramatic changes. But if you decrease your sleep time little by little, for example -hour per week, it would be easier for your organism to adapt these changes. Honestly I haven't tried this practice yet, but we can organize experimental group and test it together.
ОтветитьУдалитьMaybe, this man is worthy of Nobel prize.
I am not agree with Telman. 3 or 4 hours are very unhealthy. Yours organism get stressed and tired. Of course, after weeks of practice you would feel normal, but your nervous system would be unable to work as it would work. If you need to work mentally, 3-4 is not enough.
