5. Water-ice adventure

Novosibirsk Reservoir or as it usually called the Ob sea is very big artificial lake on the Ob river. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the shore of the Ob sea from my house.
This happened seven or eight years ago. One spring day I with my friend Vlad went to the sore of this sea. The whole lake was covered with ice, but there was a spring, so ice started to melt. And there were big water pools, which were hidden under ice. If you step on this ice, which is reliable in your opinion, you risk to go under cold water. We decided to go for small "island", which wasn't far away from the shore. When we go to this island everything was OK. But when we decided to go home, we found that the ice wasn't strong and there was an opportunity to become wet. We got the wind up. There were no other people we could ask for help. Every our step was careful.
When the shore became near, ice under my boot cracked and my leg immersed in ice-cold water. I started to run...
I run to the shore for couple of minute that seems like hours. I came home with wet boots, but, fortunately, I wouldn't catch a flue after that accident.

  1. Your story remind me my own one from my childhood. As you could notice in the swimming pool, I can’t swim well, and 3 years ago I almost didn’t swim at all. In summer 2009 I was in a campaign in the mountains. We reached a mountain lake and decided to halt. We were going for a long time, and the Sun was hot (maybe it had overheated my head), but I had decided to cross the lake. And I had crossed it though I swam rather badly. When I reached the other shore, I had understood that my action was very desperate, and I would rather never repeat it again. But it appeared, that in order to reach my shore, I had to cross the lake again  It was rather scary, but I had to.

  2. After reading the previous comment one situation cam to my mind. This summer my friends went to the river. In those times I was able to swim rather well, so сrossing the river there and back was not a big problem for me. I should add one point: in another shore of the river were big reeds and there was very deep there. Everything was normal, but then unexpected happened. I started hiccoughing! In water where the breath is the main point if staying alive! I started swimming as fast as could because swimming on one place without movings was very dangerous for me. Only when my feet touched the ground I stopped worrying. This experience taught me to think twice before I start swimming on a big disstance.
